We thought that the Glenwarrah draft of steers that we sent to this years Armitage and Buckley 9th Annual Weaner sale where some of the best that we have been able to offer. The sale results proved our optimism to be right on the money.
Due to the wet conditions early in the autumn we were not able to wean the calves as we normally do before the sale. This year they were straight out of the paddock, off the cows.
The heavier run of 62 Angus steers were sold in three pens averaging 370kgs curfew weight with the heaviest pen weighing 389kgs curfew weight. The three pens sold for an average of $1456.84 per head. The top pen made $1517 which was also the top price of the sale with a yarding of over 3200 head.
Our top steers were sold to D & JM Landenburger of Ben Lomond NSW. The Landenburger family are primarily using them for fattening and then selling on to be slaughtered.
Well known fatteners, Wickham Farms were active buyers on the day. They where the successful bidders on our smaller Angus, black bally and Hereford steers, buying 44 steers averaging 314kgs for a return of $1259 per head.
We did not send any Angus heifers to this years sale. They were sold privately in the paddock to Cal Gibson and Jan Symonds of Bundarra who will be growing them out for future breeding programs. All our Hereford heifers were retained for our own breeding herd.
